During the Men's Traveling Conference 2009, we carried with us sign up sheets which we gave out to members of the public, the provincial administrative officers and partners from civil society to sign and pledge allegiance. The signatures were to prove their commitment in ending violence against women, children and girls.
A total of 136 men and women signed up the sheets and gave their contact addresses for follow up and future collaboration.
Isiolo town along the central route was one of the areas where the MTC participants received a lot of resistance. Most of the inhabitants of the area did not want them there, neither did they want to listen to the messages on ending violence against women. Nonetheless the team managed to get 24 commitments from members of the public all of whom were men aged 20 -54 years and only one from a woman.
Some of the provincial administrators who pledged their commitment to the work are men whom we have met over the past 5 years during the MTC activities; they include, the officer commanding police division - OCPD in Voi town Mr. Herbert Khaemba; The OCPD Mombasa Urban Mr. Tom Mboya Odera; One of the senior provincial Police bosses in Rift Valley province Mr. Makahanu; Area Chief Kaptembwo Mr. Kemboi among others.
The men and women joined Men for Gender Equality Now! in Saying NO! to Violence - literally!
